What is Eternal Night

A survival roguelike in the style of Vampire Survivors, made to be played one-handed on an iPhone, in portrait. You only move: your weapons attack on their own. Each run is about 15 minutes of an ever-growing horde and ends in a boss arena. No two runs are alike, and what you earn in one makes your hero stronger for the next.

How it plays

1

Move and survive

Drag your finger to move the hero. They aim and attack on their own; your job is to position, dodge and never get surrounded.

2

Collect crystals, level up

Monsters drop experience crystals. Every level, pick one of three cards: a new weapon, a new item or an upgrade to what you have.

3

Evolve your weapons

A max-level weapon + its paired item = an evolution, with a new look and effect. Every run builds a different loadout.

4

Defend the Seal

Around 12:00 the corrupted Seal of the Kingdom calls: run to it and hold off the horde until the crystal turns blue and the miasma fades.

5

Defeat the lieutenant

The gate opens and the stage boss waits in the arena with its own attacks. Every attack is marked on the ground so you can dodge.

6

Grow stronger

Gold, Blood Crystals and chests stay with you: hero level, gear, mounts and pets carry over to every run.

What's new

What arrived in the latest beta builds.

New opening and prologue

The night Dracula took the princess, told in illustrated panels in the style of anime openings. Then the playable prologue Defend the King!: protect the fallen king in the castle courtyard.

Crimson Knight

The new boss of Tombstone Vale: a red-armored guardian who charges, raises the dead and leaps at you in a graveyard arena.

Throne Tower

The seventh stage. Dracula fights in phases and rises again enraged; once he falls, the princess breaks her chains and may join your party.

Blood Crystals

Bosses drop Blood Crystals. With them and gold you raise your Hero Level, which makes your account stronger in every run.

Boss music

Every final boss fights to a classical piece in a rock version: In the Hall of the Mountain King, Danse Macabre, Winter, Paganini's Caprices and more.

Portrait conversations

Story dialogue now shows the characters in large portraits, face to face, with expressions that change line by line.

In the game

The night that never ends

It was a quiet night at the kingdom's castle. The princess is the guardian of the five Seals of the Kingdom that kept Count Dracula imprisoned, and the seals' power flows through her blood. Until the night the moon turned red: her stained-glass window shattered, a cloud of bats became the Count, and he carried her off through the window. The opening tells that night in illustrated panels, in the style of anime openings.

Right after comes the playable prologue, Defend the King!: the horde has taken the castle courtyard, the king lies among his fallen soldiers and you must protect him until the Werewolf Baron shows up and flees, wounded, into the forest.

Without their guardian, Dracula corrupted the seals. The crystals, once blue, turned red and now leak a miasma that feeds the hordes. Land by land, a lieutenant guards the road to the castle; once defeated, several switch sides and join the hunt as playable heroes. At the top of the Throne Tower, the Count himself awaits.

The Seals of the Kingdom

Each land holds a corrupted seal in a square of ruins. It sits on the map the whole run, wrapped in miasma, and it is the heart of the run.

  1. 00:00 – 12:00

    Cross the land

Explore, level up and build your weapons. Mini-bosses show up along the way and drop chests and Blood Crystals.

  2. 12:00

    The seal calls

The horde pulls back for a moment and an arrow shows the way: reach the Seal before the monsters return.

  3. Defense

    Hold the line

Monsters leave you and attack the crystal, which slowly brightens from red to blue. If it breaks, the miasma takes over the screen and the run is over.

  4. Purification

    The seal turns blue again

The miasma fades and the seal releases an energy wave that knocks down every monster. The gate opens.

  5. Arena

    The lieutenant

Beyond the gate, the stage boss is waiting for you.

For now the seal appears in Tombstone Vale and the Throne Tower; the other stages get theirs during the beta.

Between runs

Dying is part of it. What you collect in a run comes back with you and makes the next one easier.

Hero Level

An account level from 0 to 60, paid with gold and Blood Crystals: mini-bosses drop crystals on the ground and the final boss hands over more at the end of the run. Each level grants might, health, armor or regeneration; every 5 levels, a milestone like the Phoenix Feather or an Extra Projectile.

Gear and sets

Five slots (armor, amulet, ring, gloves and boots), from common to ultra legendary. Pieces from the same set add bonuses, and duplicates level up.

Chests

Wooden, silver and gold chests, bought with the gold you earn in runs. During a run, bosses drop chests with 1, 3 or 5 rewards.

Bestiary

Every creature you defeat earns a page and a story, and shows what it may drop.

Stage helpers

A healing fountain, a gravedigger, a priest, an occultist and fairies: unlock helpers that appear on the map during the run.

Mounts

They grant stats and carry your hero on a horse, wolf, tiger or dragon, seen from the side, front and back. Some fly.

Warhorse
Giant Wolf
Runner Bird
Unicorn
Pegasus
Mounted heroes, in all three views

Pets

Each pet helps in its own way.

Houndcharges and bites
Foxdigs up gold
Owlmarks the strongest monster
Pocket Golemground slams that push
Mimicspits gold and potions
Fairyheals over time

Three difficulties, real bosses

Normal

For newcomers. Winnable with no gear at all.

Hard

Stronger monsters, shooters in the horde, more gold and rewards. Some lieutenants only switch sides from here up.

Nightmare

Monsters that toughen over time, bosses with an extra attack and the best rewards.

Every boss has its own signature: flamethrowers, eye lasers, acid rain, lines of spikes, vortexes, teleports, chained charges. Every attack is telegraphed on the ground, and afterwards the boss stands still for a moment: that is your window. Rare boss rewards "may drop", and persistence always pays off: every hunt has a guarantee.

For testers

This is a beta: expect bugs, misplaced text and numbers still being tuned. Progress may be reset between versions.

The test build has some extras that won't be in the final game (starting gold, a test map, a "godlike" option). Feel free to use them to see everything, but please also play "for real".

What helps the most: where you got stuck, what felt too hard or too easy, what you didn't understand, what was fun, and any bug, with a screenshot if you can.

Send your feedback to whoever invited you to the test. Thanks for hunting with us!
